"Digital technology is transforming all aspects of business, so graduates who have skills in e-commerce are really valuable to any organisation," says Anton.
At the time Anton was working as a production scientist at a biotechnology company in Auckland, but he was looking for a career change into something new and exciting.
“A senior associate from Deloitte advised me that if I was really interested in consulting work, then I should consider doing additional study," says Anton, who had previously completed a science technology degree.
After considering his options, Anton decided to enrol for the online stream of Waikato's Master of Digital Business. He liked the flexibility it offered to fit assignments in around his full-time job and study from home without having to attend classes.
He was also attracted by the opportunity to do a professional field internship for 10 weeks over summer to gain some relevant work experience and get a foot in the door with future employers.
Anton says the Master of Digital Business degree teaches relevant, practical knowledge which can be applied immediately in the real world.
MGSYS559 E-Business Technologies gave me a really good understanding of a broad range of topics, such as advertising technology, recommender systems, cloud computing, big data, business intelligence and data warehouses, service oriented architecture, mobile commerce and location-based services.
Since graduating with his master's degree, Anton is now working as a commercialisation associate at Scion, a crown research institute in Rotorua that is focused on developing solutions for sustainable forest management.
