Selwyn Prize in History / Mō te Hirangi i Roto i Te Tari Tumu Kōrero
The Selwyn Prize in History / Mō te Hirangi i Roto I Te Tari Tumu Kōrero Prize is awarded to a top student at undergraduate level, majoring in History.
Taylor Prize in History
The Taylor Prize in History is awarded to the top student at either third year or Honours level, majoring in History, and after due consideration of the student’s academic performance as a whole over the period of study for the degree.
Geography and Environmental Studies
Kathrine M. Bell Memorial Prize in Geography
The Kathrine M. Bell Memorial Prize in Geography is awarded annually to the best student of the year, taking third year papers in Geography as a main subject, in a first degree at the University of Waikato.
NZPI (Waikato Branch) Outstanding Planning Student Prize
The NZPI (Waikato Branch) Outstanding Planning Student Prize, is awarded annually to an outstanding student who achieves consistently high marks averaged across all compulsory Environmental Planning coded papers studied in the student’s fourth (final) year of the Bachelor of Environmental Planning degree; and has exhibited a willingness to contribute to the discipline of Environmental Planning and/or the Environmental Planning community at the University of Waikato.
Luke O'Dwyer Environmental Planning Prize
The Luke O'Dwyer Environmental Planning Prize is awarded annually to a student who achieves a B+ average across all compulsory Environmental Planning coded papers, up to and including the third year of the Bachelor of Environmental Planning degree, and exhibits the following attributes in class and group settings: excellent communication skills, strong contribution to class, collaboration with colleagues and being solution-focused.
Philosophy
Ailsa M. Snow Prize in Philosophy
This Prize was first established in 1981 by Ailsa M. Snow (BA). It was then known as the Prior Society Prize in Philosophy. The name of the award was changed in 2010, to the Ailsa M. Snow Prize in Philosophy, at the behest of her sons. The Prize will be awarded annually to an undergraduate student, majoring in Philosophy, who, in the year of the award, has taken 300 level papers in Philosophy and has shown outstanding ability in that subject.
Rudi Ziedins Prize in Philosophy
The Prize will be awarded annually to the most outstanding student, enrolled full-time, taking two or more courses in Philosophy, at either Part I or Part II, in the year of the award.
Political Science and Public Policy
Graham Ward Memorial Prize
The Graham Ward Memorial Prize is awarded annually to the academically top student who is completing their final year of a Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSocSc) majoring in Political Science, has successfully completed two year’s of full-time study at the University of Waikato, and has achieved at least a B+ GPA in their final year of study.
Lewis Fretz Prize in International Relations
The Lewis Fretz Prize in International Relations is awarded annually to a student who has successfully completed at least one year’s undergraduate study towards a degree at the University of Waikato, and has passed a first-year paper or papers in the subject area of International Relations, with at least an ‘A’ grade.
Theo Roy Prize in Politics
The Theo Roy Prize in Politics is awarded to the most meritorious student majoring in Politics and Public Policy. The successful student must have completed two years of full-time study.
NZ Business & Parliament Trust Prize
The NZ Business & Parliament Trust Prize is awarded to the top student in either a) a third-year politics student planning to go into further study in this area (taught or research) or b) a student undertaking taught postgraduate papers in the areas of political science, public policy or international relations.
Public Policy Prize
The Public Policy Prize is awarded annually to the best student in the paper POLCY212 - Power, Politics and Policy Analysis.
