Why study the PGCertCouns(ProfSup)?
This qualification emphasises social constructionist ideas and narrative practices, a distinctive orientation for which The University of Waikato counsellor education programmes are known nationally and internationally.
The programme comprises two papers (one paper per year):
COUNS547 Professional Supervision, and
COUNS548 Supervision Practice
These papers are taught in a combination of on-campus block courses, online teaching and individual consultation.
Information for 2025
The two papers that contribute to the PGCertCouns (Professional Supervision) have been designed as year-long papers over two years for busy practitioners and to allow for study that invites reflective and reflexive learning and practice.
COUNS547 Professional Supervision is offered in 2025.
The paper begins online on Monday 24 February and there are two 3-day block courses (attendance is compulsory):
- Wednesday 26 - Friday 28 February
- Wednesday 23 - Friday 25 July
The paper ends in October. COUNS548 Supervision Practicum will be offered in 2026.
